Bristol Puja Committee

Bristol Puja Committee (BPC) is a non-profitable charitable incorporated organisation whose goal is to enhance and teach the young generation the concepts of Hinduism and the wider religious diversity, pluralism and tolerances by worshipping Hindu Religious God and Goddess. The committee is governed by its constitution last updated on 29.12.2018. A board of appointed trustees run the organisation with the help of associate members and volunteers.

The board of trustees seek to appoint associate members who are enthusiastic and supportive to the committee’s values, uphold the committee’s constitution and able to commit time and effort necessary for the day to day business of the organisation. All trustees, associate members and volunteers work for the organisation voluntarily and receives no remuneration or any sort of benefits.

Objectives and Activities

The objective of the committee is to contribute towards a better society by promoting Hindu cultural and religious values. This is achieved by following activities:

- Organise important pujas and festivals in timely manner to bring the flavour of sub-continental life

- Encourage everyone, especially the young children to come forward and demonstrate their talent in contemporary art, music, dance and any other performances.

- Organise professional performances to provide quality entertainment while raising the level of professionalism

- Conduct worships in traditional ways and explain all procedures in simple English describing main purpose and relevance of each activity or rituals

- Organise talks and presentations to highlight Hindu cultural and religious values providing a sense of belongingness

- Create an environment of cooperation, kindness and friendliness

- Inculcate the values of respect, tolerance and safety in young children

- Providing authentic food/prasad to all devotees and participants to give a taste of continental life

- Serve food to homeless people

- Organise social events

Achievement and Performance

Within the first year of existence the committee has become a popular organisation amongst Asian communities in and around Bristol. Number of participants and devotees has risen sharply. The committee is pleased to announce that more associate members will be recruited to organise events for larger audience.

With the dedicated efforts of the all committee members and volunteers we have been able to organise several puja/festivals in the first year which were eagerly welcomed by the communities in and around Bristol. People of all age groups enthusiastically participated in a wide range of activities like puja shopping, conducting the puja and performing the rituals, decorating, catering,cultural programmes like dance, music, art, presentation on religious topics and so on.

Bristol Puja Committee (BPC)take the privacy rights of our members and visitors very seriously. This privacy policy sets out how we deal with the ‘personal information’, that is, information that could identify, or is related to the identity of, an individual.

What personal information do we collect?

For the Gift Aid Form, we collect devotee’s

• Home address

For the Parent Consent Form, we collect

• Parents name
• Parents’ child/children’s name

For the Membership Registration Form, we collect

• Name
• Email address
• Mobile number
• Home address

In order to contact our devotees or those who visit us at various events, we ask them to provide certain information. This includes

• Name
• Email address

How do we collect this personal information?

All the information collected are obtained directly from members or visitors at various events organised by BPC. We will henceforth also request that they provide consent to BPC to store and use these data from the point of collection. Please note, individual’s consent is required in order to ensure compliance with data protection legislation (GDPR).

How do we use this personal information?

We use the personal information stated above to contact individuals informing them of various events organised by BPC and/or any significant updates about BPC.

We communicate with members/visitors by email, other digital methods like WhatsApp, Social Media like Facebook and by mobile telephony.

Who do we share any personal information?

Personal information is only shared within the admins of BPC Gmail account. There may be occasional instances where the information needs to be shared with a third party due to an incident involving statutory authorities. Where it is in the best interests of the people or us at BPC and where we have a substantiated concern then consent does not have to be sought from people concerned. Other than the above exceptions, any personal information will never be shared with a third party.

How long do we keep any personal information?

We need to keep these personal data for as long as individual wants to continue his/her association with BPC or wants to be informed about BPC events. Any digital information will be erased from our Gmail ID contact database if formal consent is not provided.

How can the information be updated or corrected?

In order to ensure that we have accurate and up-to-date information, individuals need to inform us of any change’s individual believes we should make to the personal information we hold. Individual can do this by contacting us by any of the methods previously described.

If any individual would like us to check the address, email and contact information that we hold for him/herself, please let us know by emailing at bristol.puja.committee@gmail.com

Similarly, if any individual would like us to remove their contact details from Gmail contact database, please let us know by emailing at bristol.puja.committee@gmail.com

Under data protection legislation, every individual has the right to inspect the personal information we hold about themselves. Individual can make a request to do so by contacting us and we will endeavour to respond within 14 working days.

How do we store any personal information?

All contact details we collect are stored in hard copies and computer system database. We take steps to protect your personal information against loss or theft, as well as unauthorised access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification.

All email addresses are held securely on the servers of our email provider.

Changes to this policy

This policy may change from time to time. If we make any material changes, we will make all members/visitors whose data we will keep and make sure they are aware of them.
